Mabo Tofu

Postby Grape on Fri May 28, 2010 1:57 am

I should really be studying right now, but screw it I need a break from human cadavers.

Name: Mabo Tofu
Preperation Time (avg): 10-15 minutes
Serving Size: 2-3 people (adult male)
Kosher: NO
Vegetarian: NO

Tools:
-Stove (gas, electric, etc)
-Pan (teflon would be nic =p)
-Measuring Cup
-Large spoon (preferably wood)
-Table Spoon

Ingredients:
-1(8-12oz) Pack of Lean Ground Pork
-1 Pack of Silk Tofu (Diced)
-2-3 Cloves of Garlic (diced)
-Sesame or Olive Oil
-Soysauce (Low Sodium optional)
-1 Ear of Corn (kernels)
-2 Tomatoes (diced)
-Two Carrots (Shredded)
-Chicken Broth
-Corn Starch
-Sriacha Sauce (aka Rooster Sauce, I prefer ground Cayenne pepper though)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Put the ground pork into a separate bowl and mix with 1/4 cup of soysauce. (You can add an egg too if you want)

2. Cover the pan with olive or sesame seed oil and preheat with medium heat. When the oil is hot add the diced garlic. Let the garlic flavor the oil for a about a minute or until the clove slices are slightly brown.

3. Put the ground pork into the pan and brown. Chop the pork into minced pieces it with the spoon.

4. Add the diced tomatoes, shredded carrots, and the corn kernels to the pan. Stir the pan for roughly a minute.

5. Add the diced silk tofu then add 1/2 cup of chicken broth. Stir the pan for a minute gently so you don't smash the tofu.

6. Add 1 TBS of corn starch to thicken the broth. Stir the pan until the corn starch blends in.

7. Add rooster sauce based on how spicy you want the dish. Color is a general indicator of heat. Stir the sauce into the pan.

8. Cover the pan with the lid and stir periodically for 6-10 minutes.

9. Remove the lid and let the dish cool for 2-3 minutes. Serve with rice.

Thanks grape!

I just printed this out and put it up on my fridge, it'll be great to mix with rice!

And lol what is up with the last sentence? We're in some ancient restaurant or something? 8-)

Will do! Gonna make a more simpler version of this, cuz i really don't wanna build from scratch.

Gonna have a lotta fun cutting the tofu with a string... [/s
